The 30th Disney animated feature film, it is based on the 1740 fairy tale of the same name by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont. The film tells the story of Belle, a young woman who is taken prisoner by a hideous beast in his castle. Despite her fears, Belle learns to look beyond the Beast’s exterior and discovers the kind heart and gentle soul that lie within.
“La bella y la bestia pelicula” was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $425 million worldwide against a production budget of $25 million. It was the highest-grossing animated film of all time until The Lion King was released in 1994. The film won two Academy Awards for Best Original Score and Best Original Song (“Beauty and the Beast”). It was also nominated for Best Picture, making it the first animated film to be nominated for the award since Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1938.
